Department of Medical Polymers

The department was created in 1965. Since 1995, Head of the Department of Biological Sciences Dr. NA Galatenko. Since 1998, the department was called – Department of polymers of medical appointment.

The main scientific direction of the department: mechanisms of interaction urethanecontaining polymers with macromolecules of biologically active compounds.

The department prepared 2 doctors and 16 candidates. Scientific achievements outlined in eight books, 203 scientific articles, 35 are protected by patents.

The department awarded the State Prize of Ukraine Academy of Science and Technology, the International Prize of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and Czechoslovakia, awarded medals VDNH USSR and others.
The main achievements of depertment

The theoretical principles of hydrophilic polymer systems for directional transport of drugs into the body.

The proposed synthesis and chemical modification of urethane polymers, biologically active compounds and studied their potential role as medical polymers.

Scientifically proved methods for creating hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymer matrix based on polyurethanes, poly-N-vinilpirrolidonu and hydrogels as carriers of endogenous and exogenous drugs.

The mechanism of tumor reversion under local influence inductors of differentiation tumor tissue.

Established mechanisms of action of bioactive ceramics as part polyurethanes processes osteosynthesis bone.

By the results of basic research developed:

  1. antitumor glue “Levkin” with immunomodulatory properties for treating pathologies of bone and soft tissues;
  2. burn high-performance coatings and medical plasters to treat wounds and burns that stimulate tissue regeneration processes and a broad spectrum of antimicrobial action;
  3. biologically active compositions with bioactive ceramics to remove bone defects and for the manufacture of metal-plastic endoprosthesis;
  4. Antiseptic hydrophilic materials for catheters and drainage-band for abdominal surgery;
  5. Polymer materials for the manufacture of shells hydrophilic endoprosthesis for plastics breasts.
